NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM) OFFICE OF THE DVC RESEARCH & INNOVATION LIBRARY & INFORMATION SERVICE POSITION NUMBER: N001098 VACANCY: LIBRARIAN UNDERGRADUATE SUPPORT PEROMNES: P9 Purpose: The purpose of this position is to promote the role of the library as academic partner in the advancement of academic success of undergraduate students; to provide an information support service to undergraduate students; to develop and present a training programme for undergraduate students; to develop and maintain a LibGuide for the Information Commons and to also manage and market the commons in support of the undergraduate learning environment.
Job description

·        Coordination, management and marketing of all activities in the information commons
·        Development and presentation of information literacy skills courses
·        Participation in and revision of the information skills component in ALDA/E
·        Development and maintenance of a LibGuide for undergraduate students
·        Liaison with relevant role players
·        Information and technical support in the Learning Commons
·        Collection development

Minimum requirements

·        B.Lib, B.inf. , or a B degree plus a postgraduate qualification in Library and /or Information Science.
·        Three years’ relevant library experience.

Other competency requirements:


·        Advanced knowledge of various printed and electronic information resources, as well as the accompanying search logic
·        An awareness of current developments in training methods, information skills, student development and undergraduate success
·        Knowledge of and insight into the academic structure and teaching-learning environment
·        In-depth knowledge of the NWU’s referencing style
·        A high level of computer skills in MS Office, GroupWise and other web technology
·        Insight into the undergraduate user’s needs and the e-learning environment
·        The ability to work independently and to lead a team
·        Appropriate interpersonal skills and a client-service orientation
·        Good training skills
·        An appropriate assessment and decision-making ability
·        Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU



The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
