PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: A lecturer is expected to execute the teaching policy of the institution, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional career relevant to the profession or discipline in terms of research and community engagement A lecturer is further expected to be engaged in post- and undergraduate supervision. Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Teaching and Learning
·         Teaching and learning in Computer Science Education for contact and distance mode of delivery.
·         This position includes organisational and management tasks and all aspects involved in teaching and learning such as facilitating classes in online and distance mode, managing the LMS, curriculum development, the development of study guides, compiling assessments, marking of assessments, and participating in work-integrated learning.
 
2.    Research &Publication
·         Furthering of own qualification in Computer Science Education.
·         Involvement in general research in Computer Science Education (e.g. publishing in accredited journals, presenting papers at conferences etc.)
·         Supervise/Promote post-graduate students.
·         Guidance of students in research (undergraduate).
3.    Community Engagement
·         Be involved or initiate Community Engagement projects.

Minimum requirements

·         Qualifications:
  • Masters degree
  • Initial teachers’ qualification, BEd or PGCE with major in Computer Applications Technology or Information Technology on 3rd-year level.
·         Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years applicable Computer Applications Technology or Information Technology teaching experience in secondary education, especially grade 12

ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
  • Minimum 1-year relevant teaching experience in Higher Education.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Fundamental Knowledge of Computer Applications Technology concepts to teach Computer Applications Technology content modules for undergraduate B.Ed and Hons students;
·         Excellent knowledge and skills in applying active teaching and learning strategies to facilitate teaching and learning in CAT
·         Excellent computer skills in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access Sound knowledge of system technologies, computer networks, databases, and HTML.
·         The ability to function in an online environment and excellent skills in using the Internet, e-mail, and blended learning environments.
·         Participate in research on Computer Science Education and be a lifelong learner
