PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Faculty of Humanities has various key strategic documents and one of them is the teaching and learning plan. Within the teaching and learning portfolio there is a need to implement the plans successfully to ensure that all the following strategic imperatives are realized.
The main purpose of this position within the Deputy Dean’s Teaching and Learning office in the Faculty is to provide strategic support on various projects and critical imperatives emanating from the Five-Year Strategic Plan of the Faculty, Faculty’s Integrated Teaching and Learning plan, the Faculty Language Plan and various activities attached to the different plans peculiar to the Faculty.
This position will provide strategic support in line with the main faculty strategic imperatives in the following areas; namely:
• Multilingual pedagogies
• Curriculum Transformation, (Decolonisation and Africanisation)
This position will be a two-year contract appointment with specific required outcomes.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Experience in curriculum design and quality assurance, understanding of and familiarity with the higher education and teaching and learning as a core business.
· Understanding of issues on transformation/decolonisation/Africanization of the curriculum and issues of language for inclusion in HE sector.
· Sound understanding of the broad teaching and learning strategy, plan and passion for pedagogy and research.
· Ability to lead by example and inspire confidence.
· Has the ability to mobilise and inspire others towards shared goals.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide Strategic Support in Teaching & Learning and other strategic imperatives
· Conceptualize and manage strategies for the implementation of strategic priorities in the Faculty TL plan in line with the Faculty Strategic Plan in consultation with the Deputy Dean.
· Provide strategic support in TL support for students and staff in the Faculty.
· Create a liaison between support functions of the Faculty and manage processes to accentuate operation for the TL portfolio.
· Oversee and manage events for the TL function.
· Assist in the curriculum development, transformation and expansion.
· Participation in TL and research projects with colleagues, experience in generating new projects and grants or funding for these projects.
· Identify and manage possible research projects for TL and collaboration with various partners.
· Identify possible sources of funding or grants for research-based projects and outcomes.
· Oversee curriculum development and view support process.
· Oversee the development of innovative educational responses to the challenges in the South African context and by responding to the Faculty undertaking to engage with curriculum change through a decoloniality lens.
· In response to COVID-19, develop innovative online teaching, learning and assessment strategies suitable for the humanities and social sciences.
2. Strategic Relationship Building
· Work in collaboration with the Deputy Dean to develop, promote and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholder and other committees.
· In consultation with the DD: T&L and DD: CE develop a strategy for integration of WIL in selected modules.
· Regular meetings and contact with stakeholders to support the TL portfolio.
· Build relationships with possible funders of student bursaries and other strategic educational initiatives.
3. Administration and other tasks
· Responsible for all administrative tasks with regards to the above.
· Implementation of the Faculty language plan
Implementation of the integrated teaching and ·learning plan
Minimum requirements
· PhD Degree
· Publication Record
· Project & Finance Management
· PhD within the specialised fields in Humanities and understanding of national policy on SA HE and matters.
· 5 years Support/ Administration/ Academic experience
