NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: P000143 VACANCY: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR PEROMNES GRADE: A6 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Teaching under- and postgraduate students in psychology. Supervision of practical work of M1 clinical psychology students, as well as research supervision of postgraduate students.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
·        Teaching and learning to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
·        Integrate service learning and work-integrated learning in relevant modules.
·        Facilitation of contact and online sessions.
·        Internal and external assessment/moderation.
·        Development of study material.
·        Supervision of student’s practical work.
·        Clinical supervision of M1 students (if registered as clinical Psychologist).
·        General academic administration
·        Participation in the applicable research entity.
·        Supervision of postgraduate students.
·        Independent research.
·        Publication of scholarly articles.
·        General research administration.

Minimum requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
·        PhD in Psychology is essential.
·        Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology is essential.
EXPERIENCE/S
·        3 years’ experience as a registered Clinical psychologist is essential. Independent practice and eligible to supervise M Students and novice Psychologists.
·        Knowledge of neuro psychology is desirable.
·        3 years’ teaching experience of students.
·        3 – 5 years’ experience in research and postgraduate supervision. Independent researcher and proven publication record (at least one publication per year in accredited, scholarly journals over the past 5 years). Evidence of supervising M and D students to completion.
 
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
·         Registered as Clinical Psychologist with the HPCSA is essential.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Ability and experience to work from an evidence-based approach in psychology.
·         Excellent communication skills (verbally and written).
·         Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
·         Computer literacy (Microsoft office, e-mails, power point, software for data analysis)
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·        Ability to use e-media for teaching, studying and communication.
·        The ability to work well independently as well as in a team.
·        Good time management and ability to work well under pressure.
  
 
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
