NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAFIKENG CAMPUS) FUCULTY : ECONOMIC AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES VACANCY : LECTURER PEROMNES NUMBER : A8 POSITION NUMBER : M000385 NATURE OF APPOINTMENT : PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: This post(s) serves as one of the vehicles that the University uses to ensure good governance of teaching and learning that speaks to sustainable and responsive quality academic programs. The incumbent of this post(s) should ensure that students are exposed to various HRM and LR strategies that enhances workplace well-being. Over and above promoting good governance, the Lecturer will be expected to exercise a special responsibility in providing excellence research outputs both in supervising students and publication of papers that will address specific areas within the working environment.
Job description

Teaching and Learning
  • Conduct classes (physical and virtual), class management, workshops, student field excursions, initiate and develop subject material.
  • Develop course material with appropriate advice from and support of senior members of academic staff.
  • Design and implement student assessment strategy (plan).
  • Be readily available for student academic consultations.
 
Research and Innovation
  • Student research supervision.
  • Conduct own research for publication.
 
Community Engagement
  • Integrate and align community engagement programs with core activities (teaching and learning and research) that promote the school and ultimately the NWU brand.
 
School Administration
  • Manage and administer all matters related to HRM or LR Program as per the guidelines of a program Leader.
  • Manage and administer all content related to work allocation and report accordingly.
  • Attend all work-related meetings like school meetings, module meeting (workshops), research workshops, etc
 
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
  • Ensure total compliance of the OHS as specified by the University

Minimum requirements

  • Master’s degree Human Resources Management and Labour Relation NQF level 9 is essential
  • Doctoral degree in Human Resources Management and Labour Relation NQF level 9 added advantage
  • Membership of appropriate academic and professional networks is desirable
  • Professional registration – SA Board for People Practices, IPM or others is desirable
  • 2 – 4 years’ experience relevant and appropriate industry experience in Human Resource Management and Labour Relations is essential
  • 2 – 4 years teaching and learning experience (facilitation, presentation, and communication skills) experience in Human Resource Management, Labour Relations and / Industrial Psychology is essential
  • Knowledge and ability to conduct and supervise research is essential
  • Research published articles will be an added advantage

   Functional/Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills):
  • Computer Literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theories and practices to enhance student performance.
  • Knowledge of modern teaching and learning platforms (blackboard technology, eFundi etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment
  • Commitment to teaching and learning, and willingness to become involved in student’s educational development and well-being.
  • Knowledge of approaches to student access, curriculum design and delivery within the applicable academic fields
 
Behavioural Competencies
  • Effective time management skills, communication skills, problem solving skills, planning and organising skills interpersonal relations and client service orientation.
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
  • Ability to function individually and as a team player.
  • High level of professional and ethical conduct.
