NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: CENTRE FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING POSITION NUMBER: N003003 VACANCY: RESEARCHER PEROMNES GRADE: P8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FIXED-TERM APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The institutional Researcher: student success is an experienced researcher in any relevant field of study, qualitative/quantitative research approaches and experience in a South-African Higher Education context. The purpose of this position is to conduct research and engage with faculties and all relevant stakeholders at the NWU on initiatives, matters and data pertaining to student success.
Job description

1.    Provide research support
·         Conduct research on behalf of the UCDG P20 project, with a specific focus on student success.
·         Support various teams and committees within the university who are working in student success related areas.
2.    Facilitate critical reflection on student success
·         Facilitate engagement with faculties, schools, academic departments and CTL to critically reflect on research and data regarding student success.
3.    Present research findings in various formats
·         Engage with DVC TL office, facilitates and all relevant stakeholders on research findings in order to explore alternatives to improve student success at the NWU.
 
4.    Administration
·         Attends, schedules meetings and provide reports as per the CTL operational planning and the UCDG P20 project implementation plan.

Minimum requirements


Ø Master’s degree in any field
 
·         Experience/s
Ø 3 years of experience as a proficient researcher in Higher Education.
Ø 3 years of experience in the ability to function in an online environment.
 
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
·         3 years of experience of student development in a proficient level of involvement.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Advanced knowledge of data analysis software/programs/processes ( such as AtlasTi, NVivo )
·         Advanced academic writing skills (report writing )
·         Advanced communication skills.
·         Knowledge and experience of the higher education environment.
·         Planning and organising skills.
·         Facilitation skills.
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
·         Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
·         Client and team orientated.
·         Attention to detail, and accuracy in data handling.
 
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
