Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Compliance enhancement of Income Tax and VAT legislation – supporting the Tax Specialist.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    KFS – VAT
·         Approval of new Accounts – determining the VAT recovery rate and income type applicable on new Accounts
·         Revaluate VAT on existing Accounts and objects.
·         Test reports and programs – to ensure and confirm correct calculation of VAT on transactions.
·         Conduct VAT Training to all KFS users.
·         Provide information and handle inquiries as needed by KFS users.
·         Detect and correct VAT errors on KFS and other Financial Sub Systems
2.    Specialist tax services
·         Provide help as needed to Tax Specialist.
3.    Reporting and communication
·         Act as back-up for Tax Specialist.
·         Assistance with monthly VAT and Turnover Reconciliations and SARS e-filling of VAT
·          Handle queries of external auditors
·         Handle queries of SARS
4.    Ad-hoc
·         Perform Ad-hoc assignments as requested by the Tax Specialist and Director.
·         Ensure personal development.
·         Ensure compliance with the policies, standards and guidelines of the NWU in support the Institutional Plan.
       
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         B.Com Degree (NQF 7) with Tax and Accounting as subjects of expertise.
·         One (1) year’s functional experience with VAT Reconciliations.
·         SARS, Tax and/or VAT courses – to stay up to date with changes in legislation
 
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
·         Previously worked at SARS – specifically with VAT
·         Experience in Financial Systems, including Kuali Financial System (KFS) will be an advantage
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         In depth knowledge of Income Tax Legislation which includes VAT, Capital Gains Tax, PAYE, UIF and SDL.
·         In depth knowledge of the application of the Tax Administration Act.
·         In depth knowledge of SARS e-filling and SARS practices and processes.
·         Specialist in VAT law and administration.
·         Computer Literacy in MS office – advance knowledge of Excel.
