KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching and Learning
- Undergraduate teaching and all associated activities per module (service modules included), according to the requirements of the school mentorship programme.
- Teaching activities with regards to honours modules according to the requirements of the school mentorship programme
2. Research and Innovation
- Support research in accordance with the requirements of the school mentorship programme that will lead to publication of articles in accredited journals and contributing to national and international conference participations.
- Supervision of honours students in accordance with the requirements of the school mentorship programme.
- Co-supervision of Master’s students in accordance with the requirements of the school mentorship programme.
3. Community Engagement
- Involvement in the initiatives of the school and in accordance with the requirements of the school mentorship programme.
4. Obtaining PhD
- Undertake a PhD study and successfully complete it within the prescribed 6-years period.

Minimum requirements
- MSc degree in Microbiology or closely related field
- The Master’s degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above. Please attach proof of results in your application.
- One year’s Experience in teaching at tertiary level will be an added advantage
- Advanced hands-on experience in laboratory techniques in the related subject field is essential
- Basic exposure to mentorship programmes is essential
- Must be younger than 40 years.
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
- Accreditation with South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) will be an added advantage
- Membership with South African Society for Microbiology (SASM) will be an added advantage
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Teaching of undergraduate modules
- Supervision of honours students
- Relating of abstractive information to students and adjusting teaching styles to student needs
- Relating of general microbiological concepts into research dynamics
