PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Career Centre closes gaps between students, employers, alumni and academics, and continuing engagement with stakeholders allows the University to contribute optimally to the development of well-rounded graduates who are able to address the complex challenges of the world of work, but also to play a meaningful role in addressing the broad social, economic, environmental and ethical challenges facing South African society.
Job description
1. To manage and coordinate activities for students
· Assist students at the Career Centre with career related enquiries and assistance in uploading their CV’s on the system,
· Assist students with possible career opportunities,
· Organize workshops on CV writing, job hunting skills, interviewing techniques, work readiness, financial planning, etc,
· Complete the PUKfm, Bridging the Gap programme.
2. To market the activities of the Career Centre to faculties
· Attend the Faculty Board meetings of the seven faculties quarterly to give constructive feedback on Career Centre activities, as well as on specific needs articulated by employers and professional groups,
· Exchange information about relevant companies and do follow-up,
· Compiling and updating of a database of all relevant companies involved specifically on campus, to be submitted to the IO Career Centre.
3. To organize Career Fairs
· Organize annual Career Fairs on Campus,
· Attend to all the activities relating to the Career Fairs, which may include, but not limited to, internal invitations, programmes, logistics, catering and marketing,
· Coordinate school visits with the Marketing and Communications Department.
4. To liaison with employers
· Promote employer awareness of the strengths of NWU, specifically Potchefstroom Campus, and its graduates by promoting external networks of current and potential employers,
· Liaise with employers in conjunction with the Institutional Career Centre on a regular basis to establish a relationship with them and to facilitate links between employers, students and academics,
· Assist the Institutional Career Centre when it invites employers to the Campus to promote the activities on Campus to students, for example employer presentations and promotions.
5. To liaise with alumni
· Liaise on a regular basis with the Alumni Office on Campus to give constructive feedback on the Career Centre activities, as well as on specific needs articulated by alumni in terms of career support services.
6. Other duties
· Drive the Universum Student and Professional Survey on Campus and manage the ambassadors in this regard.
Minimum requirements
· Degree in Industrial & Organisational Psychology or Equivalent Qualification
· Driver’s Licence
· 3 Years relevant experience
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
· Experience in the graduate recruitment field
Knowledge:
· Proven knowledge in Public relations (advance)
· Proven knowledge in Management Practices (basic)
· Computer Literate (advanced)
Skills:
· Time management (advanced)
· Interpersonal skills (advanced)
· Conflict management (basic)
· Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU (advanced)
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
