PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Day to day supervising and managing of the Garden and Turf Contract and related services request.
J JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance of sport facilities (reactive and planned maintenance)
- Implementation of all components of the IWMS system as the various components are activated. Ensure that the IWMS is used to achieve 85 - 90% Reactive Maintenance which equates to 90% Customer Requests and Planned Maintenance. Supervision and leadership and control standard of services provided by staff and contracted services provides and introduce corrective measures where necessary.
- Implement maintenance and service protocol strategically to optimise planned maintenance and minimise emergency/unscheduled maintenance
- Keep track of new and existing deferred macro maintenance requests
Monitoring Maintenance Service Quality. Daily coordination of Landscaping, Turf as well as all maintenance function (e.g. waste management, irrigation, environmental and land improvement)
- Ensuring 80% - 90% Customer Satisfaction. Quality assurance by physical visits. Constant and ongoing liaison with stakeholders over all platforms of the campus, academic as well as supports services including clients in the form of students.
Contract management and administration
- Ensure Compliance of Garden Maintenance Contractor with less than 5 % deviation from the norms OR Non Performance
- Introduce corrective/legal measures in accordance with the conditions of contract in the event of non-performance.
- The inclusion and implementation of the Local Enterprise Development by sourcing local suppliers for goods and services that are seen as Local Enterprise that conform to the description of this type of entities.
Liaison and communication (Stakeholder management)
- Achieve Reasonable satisfaction with Stakeholders (80%-90%) Reporting to Manager: Maintenance and Facilities Services and liaising with clients and Service Providers.
- Liaise with other academic/support departments on request and special events
Site inspection and quality control
- Carry out site inspection on regular basis to ensure that all areas are clean and landscaped areas are well-maintained
Risk & compliance management (Risk management, Compliance & business continuity and financial management)
- Identify/manage common Risks E.g. Procurement, Health Environmental and Contractual Risks Covid 19 Protocol adherence etc.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.

Minimum requirements
- Matric plus Formal Post School Qualification (NQF5) in Agriculture/ Horticulture (Essential)
- 5 Years technical experience in landscaping and sports field (Turf) maintenance environment (Essential)
- 3 Years’ experience in general project/event management (Desirable)
Functional & Technical competencies:
- Interpreting tenders and chairing meetings
- Formal written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel)
- Good Financial knowledge and ability to interpret budgets
- Code 08 Drivers Licence
